A Beachside Revelation: Breaking Holiday Habits
Imagine a place so special that it's been a family tradition for generations, yet a recent visit reveals a surprising shift in perspective. That's the story of my recent trip to Cornwall's North Coast, a region close to my heart and a longstanding favorite of my family.
The Beach That Broke the Mold
Three Mile Beach, nestled in Gwithian, is a recent discovery for me, but it left such an impression that I had to convince my family to give it a try. And convince them I did, by extending our holiday plans and promising an experience worth remembering.
What makes Gwithian so appealing is its proximity to St Ives, a stylish town with a vibrant atmosphere, yet without the overwhelming crowds. The beach itself is a sight to behold, with its vast golden sands stretching for miles at low tide, framed by the dramatic cliffs of the coast path and the powerful Atlantic Ocean.
A Beach House Experience
The beach houses at Three Mile Beach are a testament to the owners' commitment to quality. Bright, airy, and exuding a beach-chic vibe, they've maintained their charm and upkeep over the years. My family and I stayed in the Yellow Submarine, a three-bed beach house that exceeded expectations.
The attention to detail was evident in the immaculate rooms, with white shiplap walls and marble surfaces adding a touch of elegance. The kitchen was well-equipped, and the Yeti wine thermos mugs were a fun touch that inspired us to start our own collection at home. The toy chest and mezzanines provided a much-needed break, allowing me to relax in the hammock while my husband enjoyed the sauna and hot tub.
A Culinary Adventure
One of the highlights of our stay was the opportunity to make our own pizzas. It's a fun activity, especially with children, and the fresh ingredients made for a delicious meal. The price is a bit steep, but the experience is worth it.
The food scene at Three Mile Beach has evolved since my first visit. The food truck has been replaced by Chomp, a restaurant that offers a relaxed, holiday-style dining experience. The menu is mostly sharing-style, and the dishes we tried were exceptional. From the chuck burger to the pulled pork tacos, each bite was a delight. The cocktails only added to the festive atmosphere.
A Sanctuary Amidst the Action
A new addition to Three Mile Beach is the treatment space, located at the back of the office. While it may seem unusual to pass through the staff area, the treatment room itself is a sanctuary. I indulged in a back massage, a much-needed respite after a day of lugging a toddler on the beach. The therapist, Lily, was excellent, and the experience was a welcome surprise.
A New Holiday Tradition?
Three Mile Beach has certainly left its mark on my family. My usually critical mother was impressed, and her willingness to embrace a new holiday destination was a pleasant surprise. With its stunning location, well-maintained beach houses, and excellent food and amenities, it's easy to see why. Perhaps this will become our new holiday tradition, a place where memories are made and cherished for years to come.
Personally, I think it's these unexpected discoveries that make travel so rewarding. It's not just about the destination, but the experiences and connections we make along the way. Three Mile Beach has certainly earned its place in our family's holiday history, and I look forward to returning and creating more memories.
